Pre-Kindergarten Program

Our Pre-Kindergarten Program is designed for autistic children 3-5 years old. We have created an adapted curriculum that will be taught by B.C. certified teachers and supported by Behaviour Consultants (BCs) and Behaviour Interventionists (BIs). There will be two programs per day, one for high-intensity students and one for low-intensity students. The program will be run at Discovery Station Preschool in Langley, B.C.

Children will receive support and academic assessments in the following developmental areas:
– Social
– Academic in literacy and numeracy
– Communication (verbal and non-verbal)
– Emotional regulation
– Managing transitions and routines
– Engagement in learning

High-intensity student program: 
• 5-7 students with 1:1 support
• 1pm-3pm
• Highly adapted curriculum

Low-intensity student program:
• 10-15 students with 2:1 support
• 9am-12pm
• Adapted curriculum

The high-intensity student program is meant for children who exhibit some or all of the following:
– non-speaking
– self-injurious behaviours
– aggression toward others 
– require support with Augmentative and Alternative forms of Communication (AAC) (e.g. TouchChat)
– eating of non-edible items
– have difficulty following simple instructions
– engage in activities for short periods of time
– require support with life skills (e.g. toileting, teeth brushing, getting dressed, eating, etc.)

The low-intensity student program is meant for children who exhibit some or all of the following:
– fully- or semi-speaking
– require support with Augmentative and Alternative forms of Communication (AAC) (e.g. TouchChat)
– require support with life skills (e.g. toileting, teeth brushing, getting dressed, eating etc.)
– are able to follow simple instructions
– engage in activities for longer periods of time

• Cost: $2,500 per month, July 2 to August 31; Direct billing to AFU
