This fall, Social Skills South Surrey is offering two PEERS groups on Thursdays. Younger PEERS is for ages 13-16 and is from 4:00-5;30, and Older PEERS is for ages 17-22 and is from 6:30-8:00 for 16 weeks (ages are a guideline, programs are similar but the older group will include lessons on dating).
PEERS is an evidenced-based social skills program for motivated teens who struggle with social interactions. Teens will learn skills such as: entering and exiting conversations, appropriate use of humour, being a good sport, handling disagreements, hosting a get together and dealing with bullying. Participants should be behaviourally and emotionally regulated and their parents/social coaches should be prepared to be involved. A free intake session must be arranged before acceptance into the program.
Maura Majano BA, BEd is a certified PEERS instructor and has been teaching social programs for over 15 years.
Cost of the program is $1440 and autism funding is accepted. Find out more and register here: https://socialskillssouthsurrey.com/program/peers/
