Pivotal Response Training (PRT)

Evidence-Based Practice Brief

This evidence-based practices (EBP) brief describes pivotal response training (PRT), a naturalistic behavioral approach that builds on learner initiative and interests. The intervention focuses on the “pivotal” areas of motivation, responding to multiple cues, self-management, and self-initiations.

The National Professional Development Center on Autism Spectrum Disorder (NPDC) was funded by the US Department of Education until 2014. The goal of the NPDC was to promote the use of evidence-based practices (EBPs) for children and youth with ASD, birth to 22 years of age. [Website]
