Our Introduction to ASD course is usually only open to employees of BC Public, Independent, and First Nations Schools (K-12). However, this particular session is open to everyone (you are not required to be a BC School employee). The course fee for this session is higher than our other courses because POPARD does not receive funding to train non-school staff.

INTRODUCTION TO AUSTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS (ASD) COURSE DESCRIPTION
If you’ve met one person with ASD, you’ve met one person with ASD. Autism is a spectrum disorder, meaning it is characterized by a wide range of symptoms and severity. Although there are core characteristics present in all individuals with a diagnosis of ASD, there is much variability across individuals. How do we best support students with ASD, given their varying profiles? This course provides a comprehensive overview of ASD, with an emphasis on topics relevant to the school setting. Participants will gain the basic understanding and skills needed to provide quality instruction and support for students with ASD.
