The aim of this 3-Day (15hrs) advanced training is to provide an in-depth orientation to the key themes and key assessment and treatment facets of the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) model. You will receive in-depth training and review of the model through direct lecture-style teaching by Dr Greene including interactive participation, case studies, video examples and question and answer opportunities. By the end of this course you will be able to use the CPS model as a parent, educator, clinician or other professional raising or working with children and youth. Your continued use and practice of the CPS model will change lives, yours included, because “kids will do well if they can” and you will be helping them achieve this goal.
Dr Greene’s model helps adults and children become skilled at defusing conflict and resolving problems collaboratively, while teaching children the cognitive skills they lack. This method has been found effective in a variety of settings, including families, general and special education school settings, group homes, inpatient psychiatric units and juvenile detention facilities. More recently Dr Green has extended his teaching and writing to include how to use this model with all children in all environments.
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- understand why traditional reward and punishment strategies may not be effective
- identify and assess the various cognitive skills that are central to adaptively handling life’s social, emotional and behavioural challenges
- identify and prioritize the unsolved problems precipitating challenging behaviour
- know how to effectively implement collaborative and proactive solutions to teach skills, resolve problems and reduce the frequency of challenging behaviour
