Presentation Information
In this one-hour workshop on “Double Empathy and Connection,” we explore how traditional views of empathy often stem from a neuronormative perspective, leading to misunderstanding neurodivergent folks. The concept of “double empathy” highlights that empathy is a two-way process, where both sides may struggle to connect due to differing ways of perceiving and communicating emotions. We will discuss how neurodivergent individuals often offer empathy in ways that are overlooked or misinterpreted, emphasizing the importance of bridging these gaps for deeper, more inclusive connections.

This panel will speak to the lived experience of these autistic individuals through sharing their own insights and thoughts into their own transitions. This panel will share valuable thoughts and reflections onto the challenges and triumphs of transitioning and receiving supports throughout that time period.

Izabelle Stevens
Elsbeth Dodman
