PEERS, The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills, is a 12-week evidence-based social skills training program, for middle and high school students. Developed by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson at UCLA, this program enjoys global recognition, implemented in over 35 countries.
Research has shown that teens with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as well as ADHD, anxiety, depression, and socio-emotional problems have made positive progress from the PEERS program.
Each week, teens, and their parents, participate in 90-minute sessions, online via Zoom. Over the course of 12 weeks, the PEERS program provides a comprehensive learning experience. Teens practice social skills training through interactive activities, enhancing their social competence.
It is important to note that parent participation is a vital component of the PEERS for Teens model. Parents attend weekly tailored PEERS sessions, run by a trained facilitator. They learn strategies to help their teens build and sustain friendships. Additionally, they will help their child complete weekly assignments (e.g. phoning a friend, hosting a get-together, etc)
