SUMMARY:PEERS
DESCRIPTION:PEERs is the only evidence-based social skills intervention fo
 r motivated teens who may present with ADHD\, Depression\, Low support nee
 ds Autism\, Pervasive Developmental Disorder\, Anxiety\, or any other soci
 al or behavioral issues.\nParticipants should be behaviorally and emotiona
 lly regulated.\nIn the PEERS program\, your teen will learn:\n\n	Using a
 ppropriate conversational skills\n	How to be a good host during get-togeth
 ers\n	Finding common interests by trading information\n	How to make phone 
 calls to friends\n	How to handle electronic communication\n	Using humour a
 ppropriately\n	How to choose appropriate friends\nEntering and exiting pee
 r conversations\n	How to be a good sport\nHandling rejection\, teasing\, a
 nd bullying\n	How to handle arguments and disagreements\n	Handling rumours
  and gossip\n	How to change a bad reputation\n\nThe PEERS classes are brok
 en into 14 x 90-minute weekly sessions with an additional parent debrief. 
 During each session\, teens are taught an important social skill and given
  an opportunity to practice that skill. Homework is then given for the wee
 k to give additional practice.\nDepending on registration\, adolescents ma
 y be grouped in a younger class (ages 11-14)\, older class (ages 15-17
 )\, or young adult class (ages 18-22). Also\, additional classes may be 
 added for older participants to include Dating and relationship topics.\nY
 our investment for this program is $1680 and can be paid through AFU. Part
 icipants must be motivated to learn ways to make and keep friends\, and pa
