Minecraft Social Group (ages 7-12)
Our Minecraft social group is suitable for children ages 7-12 years old who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and who do not engage in severe challenging behaviour. This group is designed for students who have an interest in Minecraft as we incorporate game-playing talents and exploration of new worlds to teach social skills. In addition, we use evidence-based teaching strategies such as video modeling, visual supports, and naturalistic teaching. Children in this group will be learning and working on the following skills:
- Taking turns
- Helping others
- Working together
- Conversation
- Flexible thinking
Session overview
All Minecraft Social group sessions begin with a large group discussion and check-in followed by introduction of the topic for the day. Students take turns completing a Minecraft challenge and art project. Following Minecraft play, students will engage in play other small and large group games related to the topic of the day, discussion of activities, and a movement break. Parents will be provided with a progress report and ongoing recommendations following the conclusion of the sessions. This group has a limited capacity of 10 children with ASD. Neurotypical siblings are invited to join for a small fee.
